CIPP/US Pricing

Last reviewed: · By Victor Humenhuk (CIPP/US certified)
Everything you need to learn the CIPP/US body of knowledge on this site is free: 307 study-note topics, 22 original practice questions and a per-domain readiness check. The only paid item is the full CIPP/US question bank, 722 questions with worked explanations, for a one-time payment of $29 USD. That $29 buys lifetime access to the CIPP/US bank. There is no subscription, no renewal fee, no per-month charge and no upsell after checkout. Separately, and paid to IAPP rather than to us, the CIPP/US exam fee is USD 550 and IAPP's self-paced CIPP/US online training lists at USD 1,195 (USD 995 for members). Check iapp.org for current pricing before you budget.
What is free and what costs money
The split is simple. All of the teaching material is free. The only thing you can pay for is extra practice volume.
| What | Cost | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| 307 study-note topics | Free | Plain-English notes across the CIPP/US body of knowledge, from federal sector-specific law to state privacy statutes and workplace privacy. Start at the study guide. |
| 22 original practice questions | Free | Written for this site, not scraped from anywhere. Try them at practice. |
| Readiness check | Free | Scores you per body-of-knowledge domain so you can see which areas are actually weak. Run it at readiness. |
| Glossary and exam guides | Free | Terminology at the glossary, plus how to pass and is the exam hard. |
| Full CIPP/US question bank, 722 questions | $29 USD, one time | Lifetime access to the CIPP/US bank with worked explanations and progress tracking. |
| Subscription or renewal | Does not exist | There is no recurring charge of any kind on this site. |
You never need a card to read the notes, take the free questions or run the readiness check. If you decide the free material is enough, that is a perfectly reasonable outcome and we would rather you kept your $29.
What the $29 question bank actually gets you
- 722 CIPP/US questions written to the published body of knowledge, on top of the 22 free ones.
- Worked explanations on every question: why the right answer is right and why the plausible wrong answers fail. Scenario questions are where most marks are lost, so the explanation matters more than the score.
- Progress tracking across sessions, so you can see which domains you keep getting wrong instead of guessing.
- Lifetime access. One payment. We will not invoice you again for the CIPP/US bank, and there is no expiry date on your access.
- One account across all three sites. The same login works for the CIPP/US, CIPP/E and AIGP sites. To be clear about what that does and does not mean: the account is shared, the banks are not. Each certification's question bank is bought separately at $29.
Payment is a single $29 USD charge taken through Onelink, which acts as merchant of record for the sale. The site is operated by THESMIOS LTD, company no. 17150638, registered in England and Wales.
What CIPP/US certification costs end to end
The $29 is a small part of the total, and it is not the part you cannot avoid. The exam fee is. IAPP figures below are published list prices at the time of writing; check iapp.org for current pricing and dates before you commit to anything.
| Route | What you pay | Total before optional extras |
|---|---|---|
| Self-study using only the free material here | USD 0 to us, plus the USD 550 CIPP/US exam fee to IAPP | USD 550 |
| Self-study plus the 722-question bank | USD 29 to us, plus the USD 550 exam fee | USD 579 |
| IAPP self-paced CIPP/US online training, non-member | USD 1,195 training, plus the USD 550 exam fee | USD 1,745 |
| The same, taken as an IAPP member | USD 295 membership, USD 995 member training price, plus the USD 550 exam fee | USD 1,840 |
| IAPP live online or in-person CIPP/US training, non-member | USD 1,495 training, plus the USD 550 exam fee | USD 2,045 |
Two things sit outside that table. After you pass, IAPP charges a certification maintenance fee of USD 250 per two-year certification term, whichever way you studied. And the USD 550 exam fee is identical for members and non-members, so IAPP membership at USD 295 a year buys a USD 200 discount on self-paced training and nothing at all on the exam. Membership may be worth it to you for other reasons, but on training and exam pricing alone it does not pay for itself in one sitting.
These are not equivalent products and this is not a like-for-like fight. A training course is a taught course with official courseware; this is a set of notes and a question bank. If you want the official course, take the official course. This page exists so you can see what the cheap end of the market buys you, not to talk you out of anything.
How this compares with other CIPP/US question banks
At 722 questions for one $29 payment, each with a rationale tied back to a study note, this is the largest CIPP/US-specific bank we know of. As checked on 17 August 2026, PracticeQuiz offers a 200+ question CIPP/US set free with ads, and shorter sets exist on Udemy and elsewhere. If you just want a sample, start with the 22 free questions here; buy the bank when you want volume.
Refunds and your rights as a buyer
Digital content sold from the UK is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015. It has to be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If the question bank is faulty, broken or plainly not what this page says it is, you are entitled to have it put right, and to a price reduction or refund where that cannot be done. Email us and we will sort it out rather than argue.
The trade-off with instant access: because you get the full bank the moment you pay, checkout asks you to acknowledge that you want immediate access and that starting it means giving up the usual 14-day right to change your mind about a digital purchase. That is standard for instant-download content, and it is exactly why the 307 notes, the 22 questions and the readiness check are free. Sample the material properly first, then decide.
Onelink is the merchant of record, so the payment and any refund is processed through them and their name is what appears against the charge. None of this is legal advice, and nothing here removes your statutory rights.
Who should not buy the $29 bank
Plenty of people should skip it. Do not buy if:
- You have not read the notes yet. Questions test recall you have not built. Work through the study notes first; they cost nothing.
- Your employer is funding official IAPP training. Take the funded course. Use the free notes alongside it and only consider the bank later if you want more drilling.
- You need CPE credits. We award none. Official training is the route to look at for that.
- You want a guarantee. No question bank can promise a pass, and anyone who does is selling you something else.
- You want live teaching. There is no instructor here, no tutor, no graded coursework.
- You are sitting CIPP/E or AIGP, not CIPP/US. Your account works across the sites, but you would want that certification's own bank.
- You already have a question bank you trust. Take the free notes and keep the $29.
Frequently asked questions
Is the $29 really one payment, or does it renew later?
One payment. $29 USD unlocks the CIPP/US question bank for life. There is no subscription, no annual renewal, no auto-charge and no card stored for a future billing cycle. If you want to check what free costs you first, everything at the study guide and practice is free.
Does the $29 cover CIPP/E and AIGP too?
No. One account works across the CIPP/US, CIPP/E and AIGP sites, so you log in once. But each certification's question bank is a separate $29 purchase. We would rather say that plainly here than have you discover it at checkout.
Do I have to buy anything to use the study notes?
No. All 307 study-note topics are free, as are the 22 practice questions and the per-domain readiness check. The paid bank is additional volume, not a paywall over the teaching material.
Will the price go up, and what happens to me if it does?
It might, and we will not pretend otherwise. If it changes, anyone who has already bought keeps lifetime access to their bank at no extra cost. What you will not see here is a countdown timer, a struck-through higher price, a limited-seat warning or an invented deadline. The price is $29 because that is the price.
Who takes the payment and what shows on my statement?
The site is operated by THESMIOS LTD (company no. 17150638, England and Wales). Payment is taken through Onelink as merchant of record, so Onelink handles the transaction and appears against the charge. Exam fees are never paid to us: the USD 550 CIPP/US exam fee goes to IAPP directly. See the exam page for how booking works.
