In the CIPP/US body of knowledge, GINA comes up under Chapter 12: Workplace Privacy; Chapter 8: Medical Privacy.
GINA in context
- ==GINA (2008)== bars health insurers from discriminating on genetic predisposition absent manifest symptoms and bars employers from using genetic information in employment decisions. (Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA))
- ==GINA is a floor and does not preempt stricter state law.== Because GINA leaves life insurers, mortgage lenders, and schools untouched, states like California (CalGINA) extend protections to areas such as housing, lending, education, and life or long-term care insurance. (GINA Preemption and State Genetic Laws)
- Federal antidiscrimination laws (==Title VII, Equal Pay Act, ADEA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, ADA, GINA==) bar discrimination and indirectly limit what interviews and screening can ask. (Antidiscrimination Laws as Limits on Screening)
